How to Get Regular Updates of Annarchy

Since I don’t write here daily, it’s easy to miss new stuff on this blog. My friend Chris Brogan, guest-posting at Shannon Paul’s place, calls the content I create here a “craft blog” and distinguishes it from a typical blog that’s updated more frequently, with shorter posts. Understandably, Chris says, my essays here are “something you wouldn’t want to rush.”

The downside of that is that I post irregularly. So here are some ways to get my new blog posts sent to you automatically.

If you like email newsletters, you might like getting each new post sent, in its entirety, to your email address. You can do that here:

Enter your email address and click the “subscribe” button:

Or, you can get subscribe to this blog via RSS. Don’t know what that sentence means? RSS is really just another way to get updates about this site. But in this case, you’ll need a “feed reader” to do so.

What’s a feed reader? Just like when you want to watch a video clip or listen to music on the web, you need a “player” of some kind to subscribe to the feeds. The “player” for a feed is called a feed reader, and it’s free. This tool lets you subscribe to any feeds you want, checks automatically to see when they’re updated, and then displays the updates for you as they arrive.

Feed readers can run on your computer or you can sign up to use a feed-reader that runs on the web. For example, I use Google Reader, which updates blogs I’ve subscribed to right on my Google home page. Click this button to download a reader and/or subscribe:

Add to Google Reader or Homepage

Some other feed options include these:

Here’s Yahoo:

Or Bloglines:

Subscribe in Bloglines

Or you can put it pretty much anywhere using this familiar orange button:

Subscribe in a reader

Finally, if you just don’t really like subscribing directly to RSS, you can use something straightforward like Guy Kawasaki’s Alltop. Guy aggregates the feeds for you, and groups them into categories. You can see regular updates on your favorite blogs there. A n n a r c h y is featured in his “Life” category  – last I checked, it’s 5 or 6 down on the far left, just above the Real Simple magazine blogs. By the way, Guy just added this blog to the Life list and I’m pretty excited to be there in such great company!

Let me know if there’s anything I’ve missed, or if there’s any way to get the word out about updates easily. Thanks for stopping by!

Special thanks to Chris Brogan, for the inspiration for this post. Check out Chris’s leading social media blog.

    Ann,
Thanks for the recap – you did a great job of summarizing the way people can keep up to date with your great content.

I was also recently added to Alltop in the Customer Service section and am thrilled to have been included with such amazing customer service blogs as Church of the Customer.

Thanks again for the great resource.

Ann, I was thrilled when a new post popped up in my feed reader for you. Your posts are not to be missed and you did a great job of explaining how faithful readers can stay updated. So, when is that next post? 😉

    Working on it now. (Promise!)

In the meantime, I just posted something new at This Mommy Gig, inspired by a conversation with my daughter:

Good Subscribing 101 post, we geeky/nerdy SM types tend to forget that not everyone ‘gets’ this stuff.

A “craft blog” — I love it! I’m so totally stealing that to describe my blog: http://kirkpete.blogspot.com/2008/10/allure-of-going-nuclear-in-late-innings.html

    (Was that deft or what?)

Kirk — Please do! I think the term makes a nice distinction.
